Newly Elected Fenerbahçe President Saran Shuts Down His Betting Site

Fenerbahçe’s extraordinary general assembly has concluded with Sadettin Saran elected as the new club president. On the same day, a striking development took place regarding Tuttur.com, the betting platform owned by Saran.

According to journalist Yağız Sabuncuoğlu, Tuttur suspended all of its operations immediately after the voting process ended. This move adds a new dimension to one of the most debated issues during the election campaign — Saran’s ownership of a betting company.

What Had Saran Said Before?

During his candidacy, Saran repeatedly underlined that Tuttur was not a bookmaker setting odds but rather a simple virtual retailer operating within Turkey’s official İddaa system. He insisted that his role as owner would not expose Fenerbahçe to any sanctions if he became president.

At the time, Saran stated:

“My company is just a basic retailer that does not set odds. This is nothing but a smear campaign to sway undecided voters. The worst possible sanction would be a personal ban, which would apply to me, not the club. If necessary, I would shut the company down.”

A Decisive Move on Election Day

The suspension of Tuttur’s activities — a step Saran had previously hinted at with his “if necessary, I’ll close it down” remark — was carried out on the very day he secured the presidency. This decision appears to have effectively removed one of the most controversial talking points of the election process.

Beyond the immediate election implications, however, Tuttur’s suspension could also spark broader debates about the relationship between Turkish sports clubs and the betting sector in the years ahead.
